Postmodern pragmatism?

Pragmatism is, perhaps, the quintessentially American philosophy. Pragmaticism, for that reason, has been an approach which permeates foreign policy. Now that Henry Kissinger, the once Richard Nixon’s architect of the openness toward  China – is getting closer to the future Trump administration, that pragmatism in the form of political realism is back. This story of Politico seems to suggest that, Realpolitik,  will be the way of dealing with the  Russia of Putin. No more ideology, only pragmatical reasons. However, if this becomes the case, what would happen of certain American commitment towards human rights, that of minorities, and marginalized?
